Pearls, also react badly to any sort of chemical substance. This is the reason why you need to protect it and ensure that it is not exposed to any man-made chemicals. The most common form of chemicals that affects pearl jewelry can be perfumes, deodrants and cosmetics. However, in order to prevent your pearls from getting contaminated, all you have to do is make sure that you take off your  pearl jewelry, while applying cosmetics and lotions.
