How can you tell if you have a good jeweller?  I mean you have a conversation with them but they obviously know way more about diamonds than you do... so can you tell if they are honest and giving you good advice.

I'm also curious regarding these things. I also want to know if I have a good jewelery or if the particular diamond i bought was real or fake or legal. Well, there is a lot of stores selling stolen jewelry.

Independently graded diamonds... meaning those diamonds that come with certifications like GIA, AGS, HRD, EGL Israel, EGL USA etc... are stones that are most often circulating within the legitimate sphere of the diamond industry.  this "ticket of authenticity" is also something you can use to confirm the value of the diamond you buy. make sure that your jeweler has a written return policy so that you can take the diamond to an independent jeweler/gemologist to confirm that it is indeed what you thought it was.  If the jeweler you are buying from won't grant you that then stay clear.

Dealers also have to have anti money laundering policies in place by law b/c of the patriot act.... you can ask to see or get a copy of their policy.
