Certified diamond engagement rings?

'Certified diamonds' is a word that has gained a lot of popularity lately. Do you check for the certification on something like your diamond engagement ring (http://engagement ring)? What does certification mean to you? To me the certification symbolises authenticity, reliability and purity of the diamond. I think people should check for the certification before they buy any diamond jewelry. I feel there are a lot of advantages of doing that. For eg: certified diamonds (http://diamonds) always fetch you better returns when you try selling it or exchanging it. What do you think about this? What is your stance on certification of diamond jewelry? Do you think it is important or do you think it is just an unnecessarily hyped up issue?

I think it is important. I know a little about diamonds but I am no expert. So, I look to buy only certified diamonds because that way I know what I'm getting, otherwise the only thing I can depend on is the person who is selling the diamond and they are obviously biased.
The certificate gives me the confidence I need to know that I'm getting a fair deal.

For myself, when I purchase a diamond or a diamond ring, I don't need certification, because my experience with diamonds and my diamond knowledge is large enough...
However, these days, if you want to sell a diamond or a diamond ring, people ask for a certification.
Without certification, you will sell much slower or at a much lower price...
