Just curious to know.  I ended up spending a little more than I wanted to but it was the right ring.

2-3 months salary is a safe standard. but this changing with the increase in the cost of living and the fact that many couples are incurring expenses living together before they get engaged ...this means that the ring is thought of less as the all important reverse dowry and more as simple tradition and 'extra' expense.
