Princess Cut:
The Princess is a brilliant-style shape with sharp, uncut corners. It is typically cut perfectly square, rather than as a rectangle. A Princess generally has 76 facets, giving it more brilliance and fire than a round brilliant. Princess diamonds are also one of the least expensive diamond shapes to create.

I think lots of women love this cut just becasue of the name.  Whoever named it was brilliant... every woman dreams of being a princess and with a ring like this they will feel like it.

Just to clarify... princess cuts are not perfectly square. cutting a naturally formed substance like a diamond by hand and eye will necessarily result in subtle "imperfections" in it's symmetry. also, while princess cut diamonds are priced by the "fancy shape" rapaport pricing standards and therefore less expensive than round brilliants, they are still one of the most sought after shapes on the market today and will be far more expensive than marquise, emeralds, pears, radiants ovals and the in many instances.
